Usually when I get something new such as a new computer or a new phone, I usually rush home as fast as I could with excitement to open the box and use it. Today the thing I bought did not achieve that at all. I say I got a good 5 min of entertainment from it until I got bored. That thing was a cheap laser pointer.
It’s funny though, As a kid in elementary school, I remember one day I saw some kids who had laser pointers and I was amazed by how far the beam of red light traveled. I really wanted one after seeing that. I remember for at least a month, I begged my mom to give me one. She sure as hell did not trust me with one thinking I would cause damage to someone’s eyes or even my own. After a while, I sort of forgot about laser pointers since the school banned it once other kids started to bring in laser pointers to school.
It was today when I suddenly decided to actually buy a laser pointer! I actually went to an electronic surplus store today and pick up some wires and solder to fix my headphones. I was also hoping to score some cheap HDMI cables but they where sold out. At the checkout, I saw a display of small laser pointers that where a dollar each. I decided to buy one since I remembered how badly I wanted one as a kid. I was not really sure what I would do with it but hey, you know what? It’s only a dollar.
When I got home, I started to point it at stuff. All I got from it was a beam of red light that could be clearly seen at the other end of the hall way. Well ya, that became pretty boring pretty fast. As I said before, the laser pointer is really cheap so its not powerful enough to burn things or has the distance of a few hundred meters. If anything, my mom’s cats seems to have more of a kick from it than I do.
If there is anything I learned today, If you really want to have some fun with laser’s, you should spend more than a dollar. It does not travel really far and it does not burn things. Spending a dollar on Angry Birds would have been a better way to be more entertained longer for a dollar.
So much for my childhood dream to have a laser pointer.
