It’s Halloween time and that means its that time of year when everyone watches horror films as an activity to do during Halloween. It’s late Saturday night and I am noticing lots of channels are broadcasting horror films tonight. I came across one channel that was broadcasting the film called Troll 2. Never herd of the film? Well if not, little do you know how awful the movie is.
It’s known as the worst horror film you will ever see. In fact, some say it is the worst film ever created! Still not convinced? To give you an idea how bad this film is, It is said that one of the parents who’s child starred in the movie actually left the cinema in the middle of the opening screening of Troll 2 because of how awful it was. In recent years, the film has generated a cult following.
Troll 2 has everything to make it a bad film. Bad acting, a bad story line, a bad script, bad special effects, bad costumes, bad cinematography, bad everything! It was made in 1990 by an Italian producer and was shot in the U.S. state of Utah. There was a Troll 1 movie made four years prior to troll 2, but it has no resemblance at all to the previous movie. Another odd thing about troll 2 is that there isn’t any trolls seen in the movie. Instead, you see goblins.
If you don’t like spoilers, you may not want to read this part as I am about to explain what the movie is about.
The brief summary of the movie is about this family who recently morned the loss of there grandfather. The youngest son apparently has regular contact with a ghostly presence of the grandfather. One day the family decides to have a family exchange as a vacation with another family in a rural farming community called Nilbog (goblin spelt backwards). Once arrived to Nilbog and exchange of keys with the other family, they then settle in to the other family’s home. They sit down in the kitchen to eat a prepared vegetarian meal set by the other family. You quickly find out this town is full of strange people who are hardcore vegans who hate those who eat meat. Then the ghostly presence of the grandfather appears before the son and freezes time warning the son that at all costs, he must prevent the family from eating anything in that town because everything is poisonous. So through out the whole movie, the son tries everything to make sure the family does not eat any of the food in town and makes sure the goblins does not get them. Then theres this huge showdown between the family and the goblins.
It’s an awful movie that actually ends up being hilarious because of how bad it is. It’s far from scary and overall, it’s just a train wreck on your screen. Rotten Tomatoes has given Troll 2 a 0% so it’s apparently really bad and the lowest you can get for a film.
Last year a documentary was made about Troll 2 and the cast of the film called; Best Worst Movie. It looks at all where the actors have gone since the movie and the lives they currently live. It also looks at the reunion of the actors and there commentary towards Troll 2. When they look back at it, It really just becomes a big laugh.
I am actually amazed that this movie was actually a real serious thing. At first I thought it was some really bad parody of some other film. Turns out it’s the real deal. Makes me really wonder what everyone in the film was actually thinking when making it. Who was thinking this is a good idea? Who actually thought the film could actually win some awards? Who did not actually feel embarrassed to star a role in the film?
With that all said, it turns out that because of the recent popularly of Troll 2, Troll 2 part two is in the works. No release date or production has been announced. But if it ever does come to life, Lets hope a little more quality is put into the film.
Anyway, if you are looking for a really bad-its-funny film to see on Halloween, Give Troll 2 a try.
